Nagpur Book Club’s March Book Meet was held at Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work on 1st March 2025. The book meet was held in partnership with MSS ISW Reading Club. Over 52 book lovers attended the book meet! A wide variety of books, on various topics were discussed at the book meet. Anil Saxena reviewed the bestselling novel “कई चांद थे सरे-आसमां” (Kai Chand The Sar-e-Aasman) written by Shamsur Rahman Faruqi. The book is an epic journey that sweeps through the death-giving deserts of Rajputana, the verdant valley of Kashmir and the glorious cosmopolis of Delhi. The book paints in rapturous detail an entire civilization, and is work of profound beauty, depth and power.Dinesh Dhawane discussed the book “Qissa Qissa Lucknowaa”, written by Himanshu Bajpai. The book is a collection of short stories, which tell the tales of the common man of Lucknow in a bygone era. The stories are filled with humour, and Dinesh’s beautiful reading of some of the incidents in the book left the book lovers in splits! Kapil Sawaikar reviewed the best seller book, “Nexus”, written by Yuval Noah Harari. Kapil said that the book examines the interconnectedness of technology, politics, and society, delving into how these dynamics shape the future. It challenges us to rethink our approach to progress and its ethical implications for the future. Rohit Tokhi reviewed the book “Discourses and Selected Writings”, by the Stoic philosopher Epictetus. Rohit said that Epictetus was a former slave who later on became a renowned Philosopher teaching Stoic philosophy. Rohit said that the book is a guide on how to live a good and meaningful life, emphasizing the importance of self-discipline, resilience, and inner freedom.Nagpur Book Club is proud to have published authors among its members. Three such authors were present at the meet, and they briefly introduced their books. Senior NBC member, Mrs. Mridulata Chouharia introduced her maiden book “मृदुल प्रवाह”. The book is a collection of touching stories from her own life, that bring forth the complexities, depths, and importance of human relationships. Shrilakshmi R introduced her maiden book “The Kumar Cousins - The Legend of the Golden Deer”. The book is the story of three cousins who accidentally become social media stars. Their fame comes with a challenge: saving a forest in Kibbe, a land of legends and a mysterious golden deer. As they navigate public expectations and nature’s fury, they embark on an adventure of self-discovery, family bonds, and real-world impact.Harshal Kulkarni introduced his book, “Queen Elizabeth II”. The book discusses the ancestry of the British royal family, and unravels Queen Elizabeth II journey of life from a little princess to Queen.Rohit Tokhi moderated the session. NBC member Ishvinder Kaur treated all attendes with delicious snacks and refreshments. Dinesh Dhawane, Kapil Sawaikar, Brahmanand Petkar, Amie Madekar and others all pitched in with the arrangements. The book meet ended with all members wishing Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal, the Founder of NBC, a Very Happy Birthday!Nagpur Book Club thanks Dr. Purushottam Borkar, Principal of Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work, and Dr. Prince Agashe for their support in making such a spacious and beautiful venue available for the book meet. Inauguration of MSS ISW Reading ClubThe Reading Club at the Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work (MSS ISW), Bajaj Nagar, Nagpur, was inaugurated by Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal, a distinguished Chartered Accountant, educator, and founder of the Nagpur Book Club (NBC). Coordinated by Dr. Prince Agashe, the event drew enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and guests, underscoring the importance of reading as a tool for intellectual growth and personal development.Dr. Rawal delivered a keynote address on "The Importance of Reading and How to Read Better and Faster," emphasising the transformative power of reading in broadening knowledge, enhancing creativity, and improving language and cognitive skills. He highlighted how reading fosters empathy, reduces stress, and serves as a gateway to personal growth. Stressing the importance of cultivating a reading habit, Dr. Rawal encouraged the audience to set realistic goals, dedicate time to reading, and choose books that resonate with their interests. He shared insights about the benefits of joining book clubs and introduced the Nagpur Book Club, urging students and faculty to become part of this vibrant literary community.In his address, Dr. Rawal provided practical tips for improving reading skills. He emphasised the value of active reading, eliminating distractions, and understanding book structures. Additionally, he discussed techniques for reading faster, such as avoiding subvocalisation and gave guidance about speed reading. To inspire the audience, he recommended books from diverse genres, including fiction, non-fiction, and self-improvement, and concluded with an appeal to make reading a lifelong habit, quoting, “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”Following Dr. Rawal’s address, Mr. Dinesh Dhawne, a member of the Nagpur Book Club, spoke about the profound impact reading has had on his life. He shared personal anecdotes and emphasised how reading fosters critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and a deeper understanding of the world. His engaging speech encouraged students to explore books that challenge their perspectives and broaden their horizons.The program, coordinated by Dr. Prince Agashe, was a resounding success, with a large number of students and faculty members in attendance. The Institute expressed its desire to seek guidance from NBC for the Reading Club.
